Du lieber Schwan ~ Dear swan(s) photographies

The name swan is a very old term. Already in Old High German and Middle High German these birds were called swan. The term is probably derived from the Indo-European word suen, which stands for noise and sound and is an indication of the striking noise of these birds.

Swans have often inspired the human imagination: not only the myth of Leda or the swan song testifies to fairy tales like The ugly duckling tell about it. In this fairy tale the swan symbolizes u. a. Maturation and perfection, it is used in art and literature but also as an allegory of purity, in this context, for example, the Swan Knight Lohengrin in Richard Wagner, whose Nachen is drawn by a swan.

Irish mythology often uses swans in its symbolism. The swans (Cygnini) are a tribe of duck birds (Anatidae). Within this family, they are attributed to the geese (Anserinae).

Swans are the largest of all duckbills. Because of the pure white plumage of European species and the impressive size they have entered numerous myths and fairy tales.

In diesem Märchen versinnbildlicht der Schwan u. a.
